Middle School Camping Skills and Backpacking Camp

Many kids that have attended our Jr. Naturalist Field Camp have ben asking, "What's next?" Well, here it is!!! We are putting together a pilot program aimed at building upon naturalist skills and preparing kids for overnight camping and backpacking. It should be a wonderful camp and this is a chance for kids to be in on the ground floor. Here's what to do next:

1. Download and print out the Parent Information Sheet that answers most of your questions about campand the overnight, including what to bring and what DNS will provide.
2. Download the Registration Form, fill it out and mail it in with your check or credit card number.
3. You will receive an email confirmation from us and we will contact you about transportation before camp starts.


Important Information

Dates August 2-6
Ages Kids age 12-14 (we will accept 11 year olds on a case by case basis, depending on outdoor experience)
Numbers Each Session will have a minumum of 6 kids and a maximum of 10 kids.
Staff Camp will be run by Program Director, Gretchen Lamar (see staff page for her bio). She will be assisted by one or two other DNS staff members. All staff are expererienced outdoor folks with excellent credentials and teaching shkills.
Transportation Once we have the list of kids attending, we will work out a tranportation schedule to the Nature Center using staff and interested partents.
Time Monday - Wednesday camp will be from 9:00-3:00. For the overnight, camp will start at 9:00 on Thursday and end at 3:00 on Friday.
Cost $200 per child
