Become a Nature Center Docent

Recruiting Docents for 2019

A small cabin welcomes visitors to the Durango Nature Center.

Do you love being outside and also helping others learn about and appreciate nature? If you are looking for a way to volunteer, consider being a docent for Durango Nature Studies. This service doesn’t require a lot of time, but focuses on your interests. Becoming a Nature Center Docent just might be the thing for you.

Trained docents spend one or two Saturdays of their choice between May and October greeting people at  our 140-acre Nature Center in Bondad. Duties include:

  • Handing out maps
  • Taking entry fees
  • Signing up new members
  • Selling merchandise
  • Telling people about the flora and fauna of the Nature Center
  • Handing out interpretive information
  • Helping children achieve their “Junior Naturalist” badge

We will provide a short training and manual for all docents.  Participants receive a free year-long membership and a DNS t-shirt.
